Assistant Professor
Chih-Chia (JJ) Chen, Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Health and Human Physiology at the University of Iowa. His research focuses on physical activity, motor learning, and health promotion across the lifespan, with particular emphasis on inclusive and adapted programs for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, older adults, and college students. He leads externally funded, community-engaged research, has published widely in peer-reviewed journals, and currently serves as Vice President–Select of the National Consortium for Physical Education for Individuals with Disabilities.
PhD Students
Cheng-Liang (Charly) Chang, M.Sc.
Charly is a PhD student in Health and Human Physiology at the University of Iowa and a licensed physical therapist in Taiwan. His research focuses on the neurocognitive and motor effects of exercise and rehabilitation interventions, particularly in individuals with Parkinson’s disease and other populations with disabilities. He is also dedicated to the promotion of adapted physical activity and Paralympic sport classification. He has extensive experience in neurocognitive assessment and exercise-based interventions. His long-term goal is to advance evidence-based strategies that promote physical activity and improve quality of life in clinical and disability populations.
